What makes a Swiss Watch Swiss? 

To fit the Swiss watch criteria, there are some factors watchmakers must adhere to; 

Power: The timepiece must have automatic or quartz movement. 

Qualities: The watch may be suitable for diving, resistant to extreme magnetic fields, and able to measure time to 1/100th of a second or track time across multiple timezones. 

Laws: 2017 saw the introduction of the Swissness Act to stop businesses from exploiting the label. To pass these laws and be certified as Swiss-made, the manufacturer must develop timepieces in Switzerland and possess Swiss movement that has been cased within the country. At a minimum, 60% of manufacturing cost must be generated in Switzerland, and final inspections must occur within the country.
